I’ve been thinking for a while about what I would say on our first JAM Sisters blog post. Would I focus on one F word for the day? What’s fabulous? The new Just Salad take out that I discovered yesterday when out doing errands? (Caprese and Protein Salad snacks for under Five dollars!)
What’s Frustrating? Finding a fantastic pair of shoes that don’t hurt my feet or listening to the debate on Health Care?
Do we talk about friendship? I can tell you the story about the two policemen I met last week. It was the first warm day in Manhattan. Fifty-nine degrees. Early March. I was walking towards the U.N. to go to the Dag Hammarskjold Plaza Greenmarket which is there every Wednesday. I pick up whatever looks good – and fresh! Do I talk about what’s fresh? Fruit? Air?
Back to friendship. Walking in front of me were two policemen. As they chatted one officer put his arm around the other. I’d forgotten my camera but told them I wished I could have preserved the moment. “We’re buddies,” one said and gave his friend a hug. (For real.)
On my way home from the Greenmarket I saw a large group of police. There was a big demonstration that day in front of the U.N. for Free Tibet. The two policeman I’d seen earlier called out to me. “Let’s see another hug,” I said to them. “Only if you join us,” they said. So right there, across from the U.N., amongst Free Tibet demonstrators and scores of NYC’s finest in riot gear, we had a group hug.
That’s about friendship. And freedom. And feeling fortunate.
Family. Major F word. My sister Wendy and I have talked for years about having a business together. We hope you will love wearing JAM Sisters Fwords shirts and expressing your feelings. (Heaven knows we have expressed our feelings plenty!) We’re excited about the opportunity to share, to be part of a larger community and to learn from each other, too. Blogging affords that opportunity and we look forward to hearing from you.
Big thanks to Alan for his technical expertise and handholding and for putting up with my fanatical futzing while developing this site.
Thank you to the fabulous women in our photos.
Thank you Dad.
Have fun. Remember we are fortunate and fabulous every day. And don’t forget to flaunt it!
Speak soon.
